Is Hell Real?

Posted by Is Hell Real? Who Goes There? on April 24, 2008 at 8:04 AM

I have put this site together because I want you to think about what happens when you die. One thing I'm sure we can all agree on is that when you die, you will find out if your beliefs about life after death, heaven and hell were true!

Its a sobering thought - you don't want to be wrong if you've rejected the reality of hell and find you're not a good person in God's sight. Hell will very quickly become a real experience for you - forever!

If you believe that death is the end, then guess what? The moment you die, you will find out if you're right about there being no life after death! If you believe in reincarnation after death, then guess what? When you die, you will find out if it's true. If you believe everyone except really bad people like murderers go to heaven, then guess what? Yep, you're onto it: the moment you die, you will find out!

The site urges you to take time in this life to find out about what happens when you die. And because the Bible is the most popular book in the world and more are sold than any other book, then it is sensible to find out what it has to say about life after death.

So, is hell real? My advice to you is, check it out before you check out!

In Christ's love,
Dave

PS. A lot of people just don't want to think about it. But you have to.

Why?

FACT: One day, you will die!

If hell is real and if God judges you by his standards, will you go to heaven or hell?

Hi Reason Disciple. Thanks for posting your comment. You ask some serious and thought provoking questions and I appreciate you interacting with the site in this way.

One of those questions seems to relate to whether a loving God would send people to a real hell with real torment. Here's a couple of things to think about. If hell was not real, Jesus himself would not tell people to fear God who has the power to throw into hell (Luke 12:5).

If there is no eternal punishment in hell then there is no eternal life in heaven (Parable of sheep and goats in Matthew 25). As Hell was PREPARED for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41) and those who reject Christ, so also heaven is PREPARED for those who repent and put their trust in the Lord (John 14:2). So if the hell that was prepared for the wicked it not real, then the heaven prepared for those made righteous by faith in Christ (Romans 1:16, 17) is not real.

Furthermore, if hell was simply annihilation, the there would be nothing to fear.

The realilty is that the demons believed that hell was real and a literal place of torment (Luke 8.2). They believed there was a time coming where they would be tormented. And Revelation 14:11 and 20:10 make it clear that they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. If you go to hell, it won't be for the weekend!
;

The sobering thing is that Jesus said the wicked would be sent to the place originally prepared for the devil and his angels. According to the Bible, that is a real place of torment.

How could a loving God sent peole to a real place of eternal torment?

I think a better question to ask would be "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation..." (Hebrews 2:3)

I would encourage you to check out the following page on this site:

A Loving God and Hell

Once again, thanks for you post.

God Bless.
Dave
Hey Dave,
I have been seeing the advertising for this site all over the place; so I had to stop by and "raise hell," as it were. But, surprisingly, I do not find this site offensive. Advertising, however, is inherently offensive.

In the comedic sense, I'm like, "I could go to heaven, spend eternity with my family and be continuously monitored by a stern, overbearing moralist; or, I could go south and burn. Hmmm... a fellow can get used to burning." <img alt="lol" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/laugh.gif"&g
t;

From what I learned, hell is an invention of a small cult used to bully their adversaries if sweet talk failed; and once that cult became all official, the doctrine remained to keep the sheep in line. I predict that within the next century or two, your cult will lose the concept altogether.

Simply, there is nothing that is not of god. Picturing hell is like picturing a man cutting off pieces of himself and tossing them on the q. Ain't happening. Besides, all this talk of "god is love," the first thing god loves is himself. Self-flagellation is not part of the divine make up.

And of course, Jesus did not lie. He spoke to a certain group at a specific point in time. Like any orator, he would be limited by the understanding of his audience. Besides, he's Jesus, he can do whatever he wants.

Similarly, I don't believe you to be lying. The personal interaction between man and god is also limited, restrained by what the man can understand. Why would god lie? Some things of god are simply impossible to understand because we are alive. Understanding of those issues will come in the next step.

Nice looking site, btw.

Thanks for your interaction with the site Clavain. I don't intend to be offensive but I accept that the gospel itself will be offensive to those who are being lost as the Bible itself says.

You seem to see hell as an invention of man. However, as a Christian I believe that the Bible (which contains the doctrine/teaching on hell) is not man's invention but God's revelation. It is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16) and is therefore authoritative, infallible and completely trustworthy. It is also something that must be believed by faith as it takes faith to come to God and believe who he is and what he has done(Hebrews 1:1-2, 6). Some people say, "seeing is believing". For Christians, "believing is seeing".

One thing that I pray God will help people see is that while God is to be feared because he alone has power to throw into hell, God has made it possible so that no one has to go to hell.

If hell was just a man made doctrine to bully non believers into believing and to keep believers in line then why invent the cross? I say "invent" because you seem to see the Bible as man made beliefs and not a divine revelation.

Hell is not there to scare people into line, it is there as eternal punishment for people who are already out of line. And the wonderful thing about the cross is that God in his great mercy, paid the price for all humanity for getting out of line with him.

What kind of God would sacrifice himself for the people who had offended him and broken all his laws would do that. There is only one answer, a God of justice and mercy. Jesus death satisfied God's need for eternal justice against our sin and it also opened up the way for an eternal relationship with God to be enjoyed now and in heaven forever.

And no, life in heaven will not be one where we are "monitored by a stern, overbearing moralist." The Bible say that heaven will have no tears, sadness, death or SINS. In heaven, those who are saved by faith in Jesus and his death for their sin, will be made perfect! (1 John 3:1-3).

The "cult" of Christianity will not fail (it was predicted to fail in 1AD) but will continue for eternity because it is built on the unshakable foundation of the love of God.

Please check out www.eternalhell.net/alovinggodandhell.htm God Bless, Dave

Hi Dave!

And did I not express surprise that you did not offend? No sir! You do not offend, this site does not offend...

And did I not say that advertising offends?<img alt="lol" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/laugh.gif"&g
t;

my religion

Thus my link above; fight fire with fire since we're talking about fire...

As for "seeing is believing," I would disagree. Seeing is seeing, which is a step down the path of knowledge; we can both agree to the perils of that road...

Yet believing has its own inherent dangers. Like, I was going to start an argument about there being no true laws in science; then I went and read stuff... now I need a scientist to argue with. There should be no laws in science...

Belief in god? I got that covered... no need to go there! <img alt="lol" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/laugh.gif"&g
t;

Belief in Jesus? Do you see that such is only possible through god? And that if god requires an individual to not believe in Jesus; than nothing of the works of man can make it so?

And you would seem to consider that if god gave man the concept of justice, the concept of justice is of god? It is not. God has given us many concepts that are not of god so that we may grow as men.

Hell, I just don't accept. No concept of justice, mortal or divine, would affix an infinite punishment to a finite crime.

Besides, go there? Go? <img alt="lol" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/laugh.gif"&g
t;

And my words here do not mean to offend. The term "cult" is not meant as an insult; and I only capitalize god at the beginning of a sentence, for god is god.

Hey Clavain. How are you? Yes, you did express surprise that this site did not offend (but advertising did). I probably didn't word my acknowledgement of your comment very well. And yes, as for advertising, I know I run the risk of offence when I do a few adds, but hopefully through a legitimate us of the Freewebs forums and members Guestbooks. On to something a bit more profound...

Yes, I see belief in Jesus as only possible through God. This is what Jesus himself says as recorded in the Bible says, "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day" (John 6:44)

As to the comment that And that "if god requires an individual to not believe in Jesus; than nothing of the works of man can make it so?" my answer is that God has already said that clearly that he requires all to believe (repent and put their trust in) Jesus. The words of Jesus again say God requires "that you believe on him whom He [God the Father] has sent" (Jn. 5:29).

There is a reason for this: God is "not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9). That's why he made such an incredible sacrifice to die himself, for the sins we committed against him (John 3:16, 2 Corinthinas 5:21). There is no great love than this. I am an Christian not just to escape the fires of hell, but so that I might be reconcilled with God who loves me and I want to enjoy this love forever. The choice between the torment of hell and the pleasures and rewards of heaven is an easy one. I make it freely and I thank God he offers it freely.

You seem to be saying that you don't accept hell because it is repulsive to any concept of moral justice since to send someone to a place like hell would be to "would affix an infinite punishment to a finite crime."

This statement assums that our crimes (sins, moral faults etc...) are actually finite in nature. One of the reasons why this question assumption exists is because we as sinful people have such a low view of both our sin and also the Holiness of God. More than that, as sinners, we are in no position to tell God who is Holy, how he should punish us for our sin and rebellion against him

Sad to say, I still sin but through the grace of God,
I have experienced God's forgiveness and through the indwelling Spirit, a growing desire not to sin but to live in such a way as to honour the one who sacrificed himself to pay for my sin. The one who has given me eternal life and who will one day welcome me into his eternal glory. As unworthy as I am (and you too) God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, wants to share all this with us. The only thing that will keep us out is unbelief. The main cause for unbelief is pride. It came before the fall of Adam and Eve, it came before the fall of Satan from heaven (Satan was an angel who served God) and it will come before the eternal damnation of all who reject Christ.

But it doesn't have to go down that way. No one has to go to hell.

Go to http://www.eternalhell.net/alovinggodandhell.ht
m and scroll down to the paragraph, "Would a loving God torment you in hell forever?" and take a moment to see how precious you are to God and how much he has done to save you from the just penalty for your sin.

God Bless,
(praying for you)
Dave

Nice site but I wouldn't have your site revolve around hell and how bad it is and stuff. I think taht would sort of scare peole in to forcing themselves to believe. Just a suggestion maybe you should right about heaven and how awesome it will be and use some verses from Revalation(sorry if spelled incorrectly) that talk about heaven and whats in it and show people they could go there and then maybe say something abou hell but I know someone who doesn't believe because she didn't think God would send people to hell for making a mistake or two. Just a suggestion. Check out my site at www.freewebs.com/eeyorerules awesome site!<img alt="blink" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/blink.gif"&g

Hi, thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate what you say about heaven and may yet include a page on this. I'd actually been thinking about it as this site is still being developed. So thanks. <img alt="smile" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/smile.gif"&g
t;

There is actually a page on heaven and hell which shows the difference between the two. And there is a page which speaks of God's great love for the sinner (you, me, all of us). The Good Perrson Test also speaks of God's great love for the sinner.

However, the focus of this site is to answer the question, "Is Hell Real" and some other questions on the side. People Google this question every day so I'm trying to provide some answers from a Christian perspective by pointing people to the Bible passages which speak of hell and letting them make up their own minds.

I'm also trying to encourage people to think about the reality that one day they will die and on that day, what they believe about heaven and hell will be put to the test.

You will always get people who don't believe because they don't think God would send someone to hell for making a mistake or two (I assume a "small" sin or two). That's because they have made a god to suite themselves. A
god who would not send people to hell for a few sins. Bible calls making a god to suite your self "idolatary" and we are told that idolators will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

The thing is, if I ran up to someone's house and banged on the door loudly and screamed at the top of my lungs, "Your house is on fire, get out quick!", no one would think I was unloving or unkind or over the top etc.

However, when you want to draw people's attention to the fact that their spiritual house is about go be set alight by the fires of hell, you get called, judgemental, hateful, evil ... etc. They said the same of Jesus when he warned them too.

Many people don't understand or know that Jesus spoke more of judgement and hell than of heaven

I come back to this. Jesus warned people about hell because he loved them and didn't want them to go there. I'm trying to follow him and do the same. I'm not perfect and I'm learning all the time but one thing I know, I cannot remain silent.

The thing is that the good news doesn't make sense until you understand the bad news.

I'd encourage you to do the Good Person Test. It
puts the whole thing together in a balanced way and gives the individual an opportunity to consider where they would stand before God should they die tonight
, and what they can do if they find themselves guilty and deserving of hell.

You need to be patient and do the whole test. 10 minutes now, could save you an eternity in hell.
; Do I say that to scare you. Yes. Healthy fear can be your best friend. Jesus himself told people to "fear him who has power to throw body and soul into hell" (Luke 12:5) Jesus drew extra attention that statement by adding, "Yes I tell you, fear him." Jeus also died for our sins so we wouldn't have to go there.

So, have you done the Good Person Test CLICK HERE and do it now. May God Bless you as you do, Dave <img alt="smile" src="http://images.freewebs.com/Images/Smilies/Round/smile.gif"&g

Gee, I guess fear works if you want people to believe what you are saying. Don't you think the author of that blog tends to be a little freaky about religion? I mean, in Holes, there are brief sections where God is involved like God punishing the people of Green Lake for hating Sam for kissing the white schoolteacher, Miss Katherine Barlow and where Stanley Yelnats' great-grandfather, Stanley Yelnats who saw "God's thumb" and took refuge there. But the man just blamed his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-father, Elya Yelnats for bringing bad luck onto the family. Great book. A wonderful children's classic.

Actually, this blog is not about religion. If you read the Bible, you will see that Jesus didn't like religion either. His mission (as God in human form) was to restore a broken relationship: the relationship between God and mankind.

Christianity and the Bible is all about a relationship. It shows the consequences of the broken relationship (hell) and the promise of God (heaven) to all repent and trust Jesus and his death on the cross as payment for their sin.

The clear message of the Bible is that by our own sinful actions we have made ourselves enemies of God. Becasue of this we now, rightly, have something to fear.... but it's of our own making.

So, you and I have put ourselves in a situation that causes fear to arise. This blog simply points out what already exists and what you should pay attention to for the sake of your eternal soul.

FEAR by the way is not the focus of this blog or this site, TRUTH is. It's only when you consider the truth as revealed in God's Word (the Bible) that you discover there is something to fear: the wrath of God (who alone is Holy) against your sin - and mine, just incase some accuses me of being self-righteous.

Fear by the way, is not necessarily a negative thing. Fear keeps you from touching a hot flame, fear keeps you from crossing the road when cars are coming, fear keeps you from walking to close to the edge of a cliff. Fear is a God given reaction to information that tells you, "You're in danger".

This blog and this site are saying, "You're in danger" so you should be afraid! The Bible says it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God and that we should fear him who has power to cast body and soul into hell.

But it also says that in he great love, God sent Jesus to die for sinnners so that they might be saved from hell. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

You've been warned that your sins condemn you to hell. You have also been told that God went to great lengths to bring you forgiveness and eternal life - while you were still a sinner! If he would do that for you while you are a sinner, then the mind boggles as to the amazing love that awaits us in heaven where God promises he will share his glory with us.

Heven or Hell? The choice is yours. God has done more than his part to restore a broken relationship. It's your turn now. Humble yourself now and get right with God today.

thanks for the message Dave. Did the good person test, fell down on the first commandment and the one about the Sabbath - looks like Hell then. I liked the Don't click this link, no more walking around naked for me. We may not agree about religion, but at least we can respect each other's views.

mike

Hi Mike. Thanks. You are anon so can't visit your site to make my thanks personal. Maybe you will revisit. You're right. Although this is a serious topic and people will have different views, we don't need to be at each other's throats.

The bottom line remains the same however: one day you will die. On that day, what you believe about life after death; heaven and hell, will be put to the final test. You cannot afford to be wrong!

I pray that God by his Holy Spirit will lead you into the truth about who he is and what he has done for you. That's not an "I'm right and you're wrong statement". Rather its comes from my concern about the eternal destiny of your soul. The day we die, I want us to both be right. Right with God.

However, all paths do not lead to Rome (in this case, heaven) and there are so many clearly opposing views on this subject that not everyone can be right. If those who do not believe in hell are right, then I have lost nothing (not in this life or the next). If those who believe that hell is real are right, the consequences will be eternal damnation in the lake of fire!

HELL? Does it Exist, Is it Real?

Written by: J.S. Thompson

People, who commit horrible crimes against the innocent here on earth are woefully surprised when they leave the earth as they are met briefly by their relatives but this reunion is cut short by the taunts of their victims and their victim?s families. Out there, Solamenta? it is a place where people can still hurt one another. This hurt takes the form of telepathic interference. Out there, Solamenta? we begin life as telepathic beings.

Telepathy is facilitated by a computer and this computer allows us to do things to one another out there just like people do things to one another here on the earth.

When the victims and the families of the victims go to meet a criminal that has harmed them, they tell the computer to allow the criminal to hear them telepathically. In other words they interfere with the criminal?s ability to hear his family members properly and this is when hell begins for those who commit horrible crimes. This can be so frightening, that those who are going thru this are put in a place where this interference can be controlled but if they come out, they are subject to this form of torment once again. This is called, out there ? ?Isolation?. God wants us to pay for our crimes but God also wants to provide a place for us, where we can at least have an opportunity to change our life and in time, become productive members of society. God?s plan does not include eternal damnation for anyone and eventually, we will be redeemed and will take our place within a truly immortal society. As God was teaching me about hell, the one theme that I was continually being told was this, ?leave not one of my beloved children behind!? In other words, God wants those who are learning how to climb the mountain, to be the instructors for those who are not doing what they are supposed to do.

Out there, just like on the earth, there are those which society would consider saints who dedicate their life?s to working with the worst of the worst and attempting to help them become productive members of society. I think it?s interesting that God uses the best of us, to help the worst of us.

It?s one thing to commit a horrible crime, those who have done this have defined the road they are walking but in Gods eyes there are many others who have not yet committed these crimes but if they continue down the roads they are walking, one day will. God must keep the road to hell open so that those who are willing to walk it will and this road to hell is even encouraged and this is true for all of us!
